Rye High School Garnets defeat the Harrison High School Huskies in the Opener of the Home For the Ho
As the Westchester Knicks, the NBA G-League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, prepared for their “Home for the Holidays” pre-Christmas Eve game against the Wisconsin Herd, the Knicks County Center home court served as the site for Section 1 boys high school contest between fierce County rivals from Harrison and Rye High Schools.
These two Westchester County Section 1 teams, battling for mid-county bragging rights, engaged in a spirited contest in front of an enthusiastic crowd. The Rye High School Garnets hold a 79-43-1 (W-L-T) record over the Huskies, their Harrison High School rivals across all varsity sports going back to 2004 with Rye holding a 17-10 record in varsity basketball. So far in the 2017-18 campaign, the Rye Garnets stand undefeated at 3-0 while the Harrison Huskies are 3-2.
The leading scorers for the Rye Garnets were Quinn Kelly, the high scorer of the game with 18pts, Max Samberg sinking 15pts, AJ Thompson and Matt Tepedino each contributing 10pts and, for the Harrison Huskies, Tyler Menniti leading the squad with 13pts, Alex Siapanides dropping in 11pts, and Luke McCarthy with 9pts.
The fans in attendance were equally entertained by a half-time scrimmage between the boys CYO basketball teams from St. Gregory and Resurrection schools.
The Rye High School Garnets were victorious, posting a 64-52 win over the Harrison High School Huskies.
Also on hand were New York Knicks legends John Starks and Bernard King signing fan autographs and a special appearance by Santa Claus.
