The 69th Annual Westchester County Cheerleading Invitational Crowns The Ursuline School as Grand Cha
As they leap and tumble in perfect synchronization toward the State Finals on March 3rd, some of the region’s best high school Cheerleading squads strutted their stuff at the 69th Annual Westchester Cheerleading Invitational held this past January 10-11 at the Westchester County Center. Competitive Cheerleading was recognized in 2014 by the Regents of the State of New York as an interscholastic sports and in 2016 by the International Olympic Committee as an Olympic sport.

Within the nine competitive divisions, seven schools found a position on the first place podium including John Jay High School, Lakeland High School, Mt. Vernon High School, North Rockland High School, Putnam Valley High School, The Ursuline School, and Van Wyck High School. Capturing first place positions twice were teams from North Rockland and Ursuline. Other teams taking home multiple first, second and/or third place trophies were Mahopac High School, New Rochelle High School, North Rockland High School, Scarsdale High School, and The Ursuline School.

Based on their strong performances and first place finishes in their respective divisions, John Jay, Lakeland, North Rockland, and Putnam Valley qualified for the Grand Championship round with The Ursuline School prevailing and capturing its first Tournament Grand Championship.

Billed as Westchester County’s Most Famous Arena, the venue, which is home to the Westchester Knicks G-League franchise of the NBA’s New York Knicks has recently hosted the Westchester County Slam Dunk Tournament, the Harlem Globetrotters, and WWE Wrestling among its sports presentations.
