Good Things Come to Those Who Wait

It will be a two year wait come this July when The Gallery League summer basketball tournament returns to the asphalt courts of The City of Seven Hills, NYC's Sixth Borough, otherwise known as Yonkers, New York. Following a very successful 2017 season, The Gallery League founder and CEO, Robert Richardson decided to hold off for a year while the league was reconfigured. Having provided local players and fans with great basketball, great music and great food, the Gallery returns for the 2019 season stronger, bolder, and more important than ever. After teasing us with a social media campaign about an upcoming big news announcement, The Gallery League announced their return with yesterday's post.

Scheduled to tip off on July 8th at a yet to be determined site, Richardson promises that there will be, “a lot of great surprises in store for this summer because of all of the incredible support we’ve experienced, and the talent pool for this summer’s league will absolutely be the best ever!” In order to put the region’s best talent on the Gallery’s courts, the league will be hosting The Gallery Exposure Combine beginning on March 18th at The Yonkers YMCA. This will serve as a showcase for the local high school student athlete while also providing exposure to some of the local college coaches in search of talented student athletes.

In an exclusive interview with MetroSports Magazine, Richardson told us that, “we haven’t locked in the game site as of yet. We have a few other options but ideally we would love to remain at the original site located at the Nepperhan Community Center. That decision will be made soon.” If The Gallery League returns to its original home court, Richardson told us that, “we plan to repaint the walls at the court. We have four artists lined up and that will be an event in itself. We want to highlight local artists of every platform wherever possible.” A kickoff fundraiser is scheduled for the end of the school year to celebrate the reopening of The Gallery.

Instrumental in helping get The Gallery League started were former NBA star Chauncey Billups and rap recording artist Jadakiss along with founder Robert Richardson and Nepperhan Community Center CEO and former Gorton H.S. and Detroit Pistons Dr. Jim Bostic.

“The town needs this, you’re doing your thing!

“Basketball is a way to bring the kids in. Once we get them and they are able to trust us, the rest is easy.”

Sure, Manhattan may have its annual West 4th Street and Dyckman Park Tournaments, and the Bronx its Orchard Park Hoops in the Sun Tournament but lets be sure not to overlook the Sixth Borough's Gallery League summer classic.

You can be sure of one thing this summer. MetroSports Magazine will be on hand to cover the action.
